In 1990 Ford presented a new, clearly grown and wind tunnel optimized escort generation. As usual, the new escort was available as a three-door, five-door and "tournament" station wagon. The Escort convertible was one of our most popular compact convertibles.
Again there was an XR3i, but the role of the top model was taken over by the Escort RS Cosworth. The 1993 model care led to the Escort VI, a further revision resulted in the Escort '95 (Escort VII), which lived on from 1998 still two years beside the Focus.
Rally sport for the escort: From 1973, the top model RS was available in every escort generation. Starting with an initially tame 100 hp, the performance of the RS models grew continuously over the years - at the top was a 2-litre turbo engine in the RS Cosworth with 220 hp.
