Caterham Diecast Models

Caterham Models

Caterham has always been keen to impress - with a car that was designed to be 'fit for purpose'. Taking people back to how motorsports started and putting smiles on the face of every caterham driver. "Simplify, then add lightness" is what makes the car capable of offering serious performance. The original Caterham design was created by Colin Chapman in 1957. The production ran 16 years until the rights were sold to Caterham Cars UK and the success story of this niche automotive manufacturer started.

Now it's time to choose the caterham diecast model that fits your collection and taste. Strap in, take a deep breath and prepare yourself. Caterham models warms the heart of every diecast collector.

The biggest goal has always been to reduce the weight of the car while increasing the power. Each car weighs under 600kg and is powered by engines ranging from 80bhp to 310bhp. The Seven 160 is powered by a small 600cc three cylinder engine with turbocharger while the big model like the 620R is powered by a supercharged 2 liter Ford engine. This 2 liter engine catapults the car to 60mph in stunning 2.79s - a time even the fastest supercars can barely match. In the year 2000 a new chassis was announced which made it possible for bigger drivers to enjoy the sensation of a caterham.

From start to finish caterham cars are produced solely within the UK. One facility is responsible for the development of the chassis and roll cages while the main manufacturing site handles all the engineering and tech development. Nowadays all the engines are sourced out, but every engine is reworked and tuned in-house. Also the strict format changed over the years to fulfil the needs of the customer. Each car is built by one technician and once completed each car gets the technicians nameplate put on the chassis. Even with all the changes over the years the caterham is still a lightweight and driver focused sports car that is still linked to the original Lotus Seven.

Caterham cars are not practical cars you would use as a daily driver. You buy one purely for the joy of driving a lightweight sports car with superb performance and handling. Since the beginning Chapman wanted the owner to experience the joy of building a car and taking it out on the track. The caterham has become an iconic car you can take to the track to push it to the max or enjoy on a Sunday while cruising your favorite roads.
